GENE SIMMONS - KISS SNEAKER
Wanting to quench my thirst for a morning KISS read I grabbed my worn out copy of Gene Simmons’ SEX, MONEY, KISS and within a few hours and more than a few cups of coffee the wheels started turning.
By no means do I have the qualifications it takes to make sound marketing decisions. Furthermore it is not my place (nor intention) to bash Gene Simmons or KISS. However, after flipping through the book, it became quite evident to me that sometimes KISS / Gene Simmons / and the folks at KISS Catalog LTD have a warped sense of what it is that KISS fans TRULY want in a product.
Case in point?…the drawing of the KISS sneaker (Pg. 192) found in SEX, MONEY, KISS. Granted, I understand that the sketch mock up is simply that…an ‘idea’ on paper….but c’mon? Could they look any nerdier? These are clearly ideas drawn up by someone who has not a clue what the average KISS fan longs for in merchandise. Sorry Mr. Simmons…sometimes the truth stings a bit.
My suggestion…The KISS ‘ROCK AND ROLL OVER’ Sneaker. A plain black mockup of the famous black Chuck Taylor Converse hi-tops. Plain in design, black canvas, white sole, black racing stripe with white laces…more apt for a punk rock fan than a ‘nerd’ KISS fan. My selling point? Instead of the famous Chuck Taylor ‘star’ logo the emblem is replaced with the ROCK AND ROLL OVER ‘circle’ artwork. Round in design and reminiscent of the classic KISS lineup placed on a simple classic sneaker. THE KISS ROCK AND ROLL OVER SNEAKER…its simple…its cool…and it tells the world you’re a KISS fan without taking away your integrity. What more could a KISS fan ask for? (Besides winter season Ace Frehley Moon Boots)….hmmm???
